Lawns kept short, neat and even
Lawn mowing comes first on Matt's list, and it's the job that makes the biggest difference to how a garden looks. Each cut is even, the edges along paths and borders are tidied, and clippings are swept off the paths, so the lawn looks finished rather than just shorter. The photo above is a back lawn after one of Matt's visits, stripes and all.
Mowing on the edge of the Pennines
Penistone and Crow Edge sit high up on the edge of the Pennines, so grass often gets going later in spring and the ground can stay soft for days after rain. While it's growing, most lawns want cutting every week or two. Taking off no more than about a third of the blade at a time keeps the grass thick and green instead of scalped and yellow.
